{"id":1804,"date":"2014-09-05T07:13:50","date_gmt":"2014-09-05T11:13:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trustacrossamerica.com\/blog\/?p=1804"},"modified":"2014-09-05T07:13:50","modified_gmt":"2014-09-05T11:13:50","slug":"the-confusion-between-trust-customer-loyalty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.trustacrossamerica.com\/blog\/?p=1804","title":{"rendered":"The Confusion Between Trust &#038; Customer Loyalty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trustacrossamerica.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=1005\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1005\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1005\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trustacrossamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/TAATAW_LOGO_H_color-tagline-300x122.jpg\" alt=\"TAA_R2_EDIT-CS3\" width=\"300\" height=\"122\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Ask most Americans\u00a0which companies they trust and the same names will surface: Apple, Google, Amazon, and maybe even Walmart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">But when pressed as to why, the answer is usually something like this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I trust Apple because they have innovative products.<\/li>\n<li>I trust Google because\u00a0their search feature is easy to use.<\/li>\n<li>I trust Amazon to deliver my packages very quickly.<\/li>\n<li>I trust Walmart to have the lowest prices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">So does this mean these companies should be trusted? Sounds more to me like we are\u00a0talking about customer loyalty or brand loyalty and not so much about trust.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In fact, many would argue that these four are far from trustworthy.\u00a0\u00a0Just ask Apple&#8217;s factory workers, Google&#8217;s privacy critics, Amazon&#8217;s publishers or Walmart&#8217;s suppliers what they think.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">So let&#8217;s not generalize the word &#8220;trust.&#8221; If we are going to talk about it, we need to clarify what we really mean!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Earlier today I read the following article about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.datamation.com\/commentary\/ibm-can-help-apples-trust-issues-but-blackberry-could-steal-share.html\">how IBM can help Apple with its trust issues<\/a>. It sheds a bit more light on the\u00a0confusion between brand loyalty and trust.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">And my friend Charlie Green recently wrote this blog post called <a href=\"http:\/\/trustedadvisor.com\/trustmatters\/trust-far-come\">If Trust Is So Far Down, How Come<\/a>&#8211; which\u00a0confirms the need to\u00a0use the correct terminology.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">What do you think?
