Isn&#8217;t that Backwards?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trustacrossamerica.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=1005\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1005\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1005\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trustacrossamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/TAATAW_LOGO_H_color-tagline-300x122.jpg\" alt=\"TAA_R2_EDIT-CS3\" width=\"300\" height=\"122\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The other day I read an interesting article called\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hreonline.com\/HRE\/view\/story.jhtml?id=534357498\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">&#8220;Gaining Their Trust&#8221;<\/span><\/a><\/span> in <em>Human Resource Executive Online.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>According to this article,\u00a0\u00a0HR leaders must earn the trust and respect of their C-Suite colleagues and board members.<\/p>\n<p>Something about this doesn&#8217;t sound quite right.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Isn&#8217;t it\u00a0the Board and C-Suite&#8217;s responsibility to lead with trust and then to extend that trust to not only HR leaders but all leaders?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We wrote about this extensively in our second book, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/trustacrossamerica.com\/order.shtml\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">TRUST INC., a Guide for Boards &amp; C-Suites.<\/span><\/a> <\/span>In fact, 60 experts weighed in with 100 strategies for Boards &amp; C-Suites to lead with trust with internal stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.speedoftrust.com\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Stephen M.R. Covey<\/span><\/a><\/span><strong>\u00a0speaks frequently about the 5 Waves (Incremental Steps) of Trust in an Organization:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ WAVE #2 and #3 CAREFULLY!!!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>WAVE 1:<\/strong>\u00a0Self Trust (personal credibility)<\/p>\n<p><strong>WAVE 2:<\/strong>\u00a0Relationship Trust (behavior with others)<\/p>\n<p><strong>WAVE 3:<\/strong>\u00a0Stakeholder Trust (alignment with internal stakeholders)<\/p>\n<p><strong>WAVE 4:<\/strong>\u00a0Market Trust (external reputation)<\/p>\n<p><strong>WAVE 5:<\/strong>\u00a0Societal Trust ( global citizenship- social consciousness, corporate citizenship, and corporate social responsibility.)<\/p>\n<p>The responsibility\u00a0of gaining trust\u00a0lies squarely with\u00a0the Board and C-Suite,\u00a0whose first priority should be in building\u00a0relationships and\u00a0ensuring alignment\u00a0with their internal stakeholders, not the other way around.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trust-focused organizations\u00a0must:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have a\u00a0well-defined mission, corporate credo and strong values<\/li>\n<li>Hire the &#8220;right&#8221; people who are aligned with those values<\/li>\n<li>Lead with trust.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Barbara Brooks Kimmel<\/strong>\u00a0is the Executive Director of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/trustacrossamerica.com\/index.shtml\">Trust Across America-Trust Around the World<\/a>\u00a0whose mission is to help organizations build trust.
