Michelle is the organizer of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetrustconference.com\/\">Global Trust Conference<\/a>, which completed its second annual event just yesterday. I was lucky enough to virtually attend the conference, and to catch <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myspeedoftrust.com\/\">Stephen M.R. Covey <\/a>delivering a great speech, packed with insight and advice. Stephen wrote the cover quote for our award-winning book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/1932919368\/ref=as_li_ss_til?tag=trustacrossam-20&amp;camp=213381&amp;creative=390973&amp;linkCode=as4&amp;creativeASIN=1932919368&amp;adid=17T9WSRBD19T73CZF6ER&amp;&amp;ref-refURL=http:\/\/trustacrossamerica.com\/reading_room.shtml\">TRUST Inc<\/a>. and also contributed an essay.<\/p>\n<p>I took notes and am happy to provide some highlights in today&#8217;s blog post.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are the three most important facts about trust?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Trust is an economic driver<\/li>\n<li>Trust is the #1 competency of leadership<\/li>\n<li>Trust is a learnable competency.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Think about a person you work with who you trust and consider the positive outcomes of that relationship. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now think about a person you work with who you don&#8217;t trust and the lost opportunities\u00a0as a result.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trust=Confidence while Distrust=Suspicion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Confidence requires both character and competence.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trust is Reciprocal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When you give trust, you receive it in return.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trust is Not about Coordination<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Trust is about collaboration, partnering and teamwork.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Energy and Joy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When trust goes down, energy and joy do too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Four Cornerstones of Credibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Integrity (character)<\/li>\n<li>Intent (motive\/agenda)<\/li>\n<li>Capability (are you relevant?)<\/li>\n<li>Results (your past and current performance)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Talk Straight<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Candor is the language of trust. Never use spin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leaders Extend Trust<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The first job of a leader is to INSPIRE TRUST<\/li>\n<li>The second job of a leader is to EXTEND TRUST<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And finally&#8230;.<strong> the starting place for trust is self-trust.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thank you Michelle and Stephen.
