{"id":2950,"date":"2015-09-08T08:17:28","date_gmt":"2015-09-08T12:17:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trustacrossamerica.com\/blog\/?p=2950"},"modified":"2015-09-08T08:17:28","modified_gmt":"2015-09-08T12:17:28","slug":"which-kind-of-butcher-are-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.trustacrossamerica.com\/blog\/?p=2950","title":{"rendered":"Which Kind of Butcher Are You?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trustacrossamerica.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=1005\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1005\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1005\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trustacrossamerica.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/TAATAW_LOGO_H_color-tagline-300x122.jpg\" alt=\"TAA_R2_EDIT-CS3\" width=\"300\" height=\"122\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Happy (post) Labor Day, a long weekend traditionally filled with barbecues and burgers.<\/p>\n<p>Having spent many years living in the same community it&#8217;s been interesting to observe the polar opposite leadership &#8220;styles&#8221; of two competing businesses, the local butcher shops.<\/p>\n<p><strong>These are the &#8220;rules&#8221; established by Shopkeeper #1:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No we will not skin your chicken<\/li>\n<li>No we will not cut steaks to order<\/li>\n<li>No we will not provide extra marinade<\/li>\n<li>No we will not break up that package of bratwurst<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The list of &#8220;no&#8217;s is never ending and the butchers are usually (except for one) rude, pretending they have never seen you before.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And these are the &#8220;rules&#8221; established by Shopkeeper #2:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The customer is always greeted by a warm smile and usually by their first name, followed by a sincere interest in the family. \u00a0And ordering is a breeze.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You want the chicken skinned, of course!<\/li>\n<li>You want the steak sliced thin, no problem!<\/li>\n<li>Take a jar of marinade on us.<\/li>\n<li>How many bratwurst do you want?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Is it any surprise that people line up to do business with Shopkeeper #2? What are his secrets? I know a few of them:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The customer always comes first.<\/li>\n<li>Employees are paid well.<\/li>\n<li>Working hard and showing commitment will earn you a piece of his business.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Regardless of the kind of organization, the leader sets the tone. Core values are either established or they aren&#8217;t. Which kind of butcher are you?
