I&#8217;ve pulled it directly from <a href=\"http:\/\/trustedadvisor.com\/\">their website<\/a> with permission from Charles H. Green, a <a href=\"http:\/\/trustacrossamerica.com\/cgi-bin\/alliance.cgi\">Trust Alliance member<\/a> and one of our <a href=\"http:\/\/trustacrossamerica.com\/offerings-thought-leaders-2016.shtml\">Lifetime Achievement Award Winners.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>The Trust Equation uses four objective variables to measure trustworthiness. These four variables are best described as: Credibility, Reliability, Intimacy and Self-Orientation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We combine these variables into the following equation:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3954 size-full\" title=\"The Trust Equation\" src=\"http:\/\/trustedadvisor.com\/public\/the_trust_equation.png\" sizes=\"(max-width: 548px) 100vw, 548px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/trustedadvisor.com\/public\/the_trust_equation-300x153.png 300w, http:\/\/trustedadvisor.com\/public\/the_trust_equation.png 548w\" alt=\"\" width=\"548\" height=\"280\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>TQ stands for Trust Quotient. The Trust Quotient is a number \u2014 like your IQ or EQ \u2014 that benchmarks your trustworthiness against the four variables.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In my opinion, and maybe Charlie&#8217;s too, nothing busts trust faster than a high denominator. All the credibility, reliability and intimacy in the world can&#8217;t fix that all too frequent &#8220;out\u00a0of control&#8221; self-orientation.<\/p>\n<p>Whether your work is in consulting, sales or any other profession requiring people skills, consider the possibility that the\u00a0other individuals sitting at the table are familiar with Charlie&#8217;s Trust Equation. They are seeking signs of high self-orientation and it may just be the personality trait\u00a0that kills the deal.\u00a0Here&#8217;s ten signs to look for:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Focus on the &#8220;I&#8221; instead of the &#8220;We&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Failure to ask (or ask for) questions<\/li>\n<li>Interrupting<\/li>\n<li>Talking more than listening<\/li>\n<li>Lack of transparency<\/li>\n<li>Need for recognition<\/li>\n<li>Taking all the credit<\/li>\n<li>Having a win\/lose perspective as opposed to a win\/win<\/li>\n<li>Bending the truth<\/li>\n<li>Making excuses<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>It&#8217;s never too late to lower your self-orientation if it&#8217;s impeding your ability to succeed.
