How many readers <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1Jjw8IG\">took the advice<\/a> of Kouzes &amp; Posner on building organizational trust in Week #1 or of <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1VTEg4y\">Bob Vanourek<\/a> in Week #2?<\/p>\n<p>This is the third article in a series of weekly ideas to elevate trust in your organization, pulled from our third annual <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/trustacrossamerica.com\/poster.shtml\">2016 Trust Poster<\/a>, 52 Ideas That You Can Implement to Build Trust.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This idea is offered by yours truly (Barbara Brooks Kimmel), the CEO and cofounder of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.trustacrossamerica.com\">Trust Across America-Trust Around the World.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>Agree on a set of core values, practice and reinforce them daily<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Or, as Peter Drucker said, <em>\u201cthe enterprise must have simple, clear, and unifying objectives.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em>Moving towards a trust-based business strategy requires the following steps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First, the Board of Directors, then the CEO with C-Suite support must acknowledge and embrace the\u00a0importance of building trust.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1GHV62j\">The business case has been made<\/a>\u00a0but the vast majority of organizations continue to ignore it.<\/li>\n<li>Regularly communicating the values and culture.<\/li>\n<li>Mandating and ensuring that those values are meeting the long-term needs of all internal and external stakeholders and across all silos- shareholders, employees, customers, suppliers, community, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Always \u201cwalking the talk.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you are looking for an example of a company that embraces its core values, look no further than <a href=\"http:\/\/www.starbucks.com\/about-us\/company-information\/mission-statement\">Starbucks<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>With our partners, our coffee and our customers at our core, we live these values:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Creating a culture of warmth and belonging, where everyone is welcome.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Acting with courage, challenging the status quo and finding new ways to grow our company and each other.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Being present, connecting with transparency, dignity and respect.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Delivering our very best in all we do, holding ourselves accountable for results.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>We are performance driven, through the lens of humanity.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you currently hold a leadership position or aspire to be a trustworthy leader, remember that if leaders haven&#8217;t identified the organization&#8217;s values, it&#8217;s unlikely that trust can work its magic.\u00a0And by the way, trustworthy leaders also <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1mR4R6s\">ask the right questions<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>The third week of 2016 starts soon!
