Over the past 15+ years I have spoken with hundreds if not thousands of business leaders from small startups to Fortune 500 and, if the opportunity presents itself, I ask the following question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What role does trust play in your daily work?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the most common responses, in no particular order, are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. I never thought about it<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. My employees trust me<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. None, I have too many daily fires to extinguish<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. None, it\u2019s not my job<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Huge, every year we bring in a “big name” motivational speaker<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    What\u2019s the message here? Whether you are a leader, manager or work as a member of a team, if you do not intentionally choose to incorporate\u00a0 trust into your daily activities, do not expect it to flourish. It does not happen on its own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
